May 21, 2014 3:30 PM in response to DigArtTeacherby Niel,Click here and check your applications for compatibility first, back up your computer, and if desired, install enough RAM to bring it to at least 4GB. If it's incompatible with Mavericks, the Mac App Store will say so when the upgrade is attempted.

The 2008 Xserve is not officially supported for Mountain Lion or Mavericks and will not allow you to install it easily. There are ways to get it to work but these are obviously hacks and as you're running things at a school you might not want to bother with it..
You can google how to do it if you want to.
Good luck
