Disabled iPod (2nd Gen) help please

Hi all,

My sons iPod, which is a pretty old 8Gb Generation 2, has got the "iPod is Disabled" screen after he forgot the passcode.

He doesn't care about the data etc. on it, just want to set it up as a new iPod again.

I have iTunes 11.2 and have tried all the usual ways to get it into recovery mode, but it seems no matter what I do, iTunes just keeps coming up with the message box

"iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch "xxxx" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod touch before it can be used with iTunes."

Can anyone give me a clue on what I am doing wrong please?

Thanks

Disabled

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. Try again since timing is critical. The iPod will be erased.

iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:

iTunes: Restoring iOS software

To restore from backup see:

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Try another cable and USB port. Try on another computer.
