May 23, 2014 6:26 AM in response to Charlottemeby a brody,The 2009 iMac is hard to take apart. You may find instructions on http://www.ifixit.com/ http://www.macsales.com/ or http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ If not, bring it in for service, and bring the disc too in order to see if it is the optical drive that needed replacing as well, or if the disc itself is damaged.

May 23, 2014 6:57 AM in response to Charlottemeby andyBall_uk,★HelpfulMac OS X v10.6.4 and later: Unable to Install SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
Although depending on exactly when you see the message, that may not be the problem.

May 23, 2014 9:19 PM in response to andyBall_ukby Charlotteme,Hi
I was trying to load a region 0, I am region 4 but I though my mac would play a region 0 because I though it "0" was multi regional (before I clicked on the app.) and the super drive kept on spitting it out then it wouldn't work at all and came up as "no drive"!
So I just shut down the computer all together unhooked the power and went back in about 1/2 an hour.
Then when I restarted it it the superdrive seemed to work fine. Then I clicked on the Superdrive Update. Perhaps I should have explained it this way before Ooops. This was the sequence in which this catastrophy occured.
Went to system profiler and go this snapshot could anyone possibly tell me what this means. That would be great! Thank you!

May 24, 2014 5:40 AM in response to Charlottemeby andyBall_uk,★HelpfulYour screenshot simply shows the details of the Update application.
Check the Additional Information section at About SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
although unless you have a problem : 'This update addresses noise made by the optical disk drive during wake from sleep on your Mac' I wouldn't be concerned either way.

May 24, 2014 6:31 PM in response to andyBall_ukby Charlotteme,Thanks for that, unfortunately I am a complete rookie when it comes to technical stuff like that. Nevertheless it's good to know it isn't a major problem. Cheers
