Video 8 will require an Analogue to Digital Converter box to make the analogue output from the camera to the digital input of the MBPro.
If you have a Digital 8 camera it can replace the A/D Converter.
If the MBPro has a firewire port use this with a firewire cable.
Newer Macs have no firewire ports, they have Thunderbolt.
You may need theThunderbolt to firewire adapter.

In addition to Alchroma's replly: if this is Digital 8 camera, it should work directly with FCP X for Digital 8 tapes; but Hi8 tapes are analog and do not have timecode. For those you can probably use Quicktime Player to import, and then bring the files thus created into FCP X.
