I had this issue too in my Device Manager: Base System Device

I downloaded the following driver from Intel (PRO2KXP.exe)

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=&DwnldI D=4275&ProductID=879

and followed this instruction I found on another discussion board.

On LAN driver package 10.4 or earlier releases :

(1) Manually install the ioatdma.inf for the Base System Device. Extract the LAN driver package, select the Base System Device in Microsoft Windows* Device Manager and direct Windows to find ioatdma.inf in the c:\Intel 10.3\Device\PLATFORM\IOATDMA\WS03 (for IA32) or \Intel Base System Device\PLATFORM\IOATDMA\WS3XPx64 (for EM64T). This will install the ioatdma.inf.

Hope this helps you

Guys -

Thanks for the fix on the "Base System Device" error in device manager!

Now.... I still have 4 other items with exclamation points. 4 of the PCI Express X4 (Port 3 , 5, 6, 7) failed to load their drivers. I've been searching around for a while to no avail -- anyone have any ideas?

If we can solve this last problem, I think I'll finally be able to install or upgrade to Vista RC1 and get the video working on a stock Mac Pro -- these same items appear in the device manager in Vista and I (think) are causing the video driver to fail...

Thanks Guys!
Aaron

What problems are you having with the video driver failing in Vista RC1? I have Vista RC1 running and haven't had any video card issues. I have had other issues, though, and am going to start a separate thread...
