iOS email address autocomplete problem

Hi,

I have read multiple threads here about people wanting to delete email addresses from the list of suggestions that automatically pops up when one starts addressing a new email in iOS. I have learned that with iOS 6 this feature became available, and that all one has to do is to click the blue arrow next to the unwanted address and it will stop popping up. Sadly, this is not helping me with my problem, and I am here today hoping that someone else can help me figure this out.

I would like to be able to remove some addresses from the list of suggested addresses that comes up when I type in, for example "jo"

What comes up is along the lines of:

Jon Smith jon@abc.com

Joe Sugar joe@xyz.com

Jon Smith smith@smith.com

Joseph Green green@space.com

Susan Joseph sue@xyz.com

Jon Smith jon@smith.com

None of these addresses have any blue arrows, or blue i with circle around them (although about 25 addresses down the list of suggestions, there are some that do have the blue circled i next to them).

But, I am almost 100% of the time if I type in "jo" attempting to send email to jon@smith.com - so I would like to make that the default suggestion. Is there some way to make iOS stop suggesting all these other addresses? (in point of fact - the actual name/address I am sending to is longer, so in order to bypass the suggestions I actually have to type a full 10 characters of the address in question, and it's just irritating).

Thanks,

Hillary

I think I figured out the problem, my old school email address is connected to a school wide Directory in their Education Gmail account. It's under my contacts in the web version of gmail and only shows up on my phone when composing emails or inviting calendar guests. It's SO annoying. I can't find any way to opt out of this directory. The weird thing is my school's gmail account isn't even linked to my calendar app. I don't have these people as contacts, it's literally everyone in my school though. UGH.
