IPhone 4s 16gb white factory unlocked

I bought a factory unlocked apple iPhone 4s 16gb white on eBay , it turns on let's me select language and country then goes to wifi or connect thru iTunes , but thru iTunes it says can't activate and neither thru wifi. Says can't activate try again and also a message : please insert SIM card with no pin lock to activate. I didn't have a sim when I received it and seller is very unhelpful! What do I do ? Do I just need to get a sim from sprint or boost ? Since I want to activate this phone on my boost mobile account since I been with them for 5 years. Any suggestions?

You cant use you're iPhone on Boost Mobile since they aren't a GSM carrier, they are a CDMA.

Apple does not use the term "factory unlocked" at all.

You can not activate it without a SIM at all. You will NOT be able to use that phone on any CDMA carrier, including Sprint and Boost Mobile. If you want to use a CDMA carrier, you must purchase a phone made for their network.

If you want to use that phone (assuming it's legitimately unlocked) you will have to use a GSM carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile.
