How do I delete an Unverified iCloud account email

I got a replacement phone from the Apple store. Restored it to an old backup (by mistake). I wanted to do another restore and it needs me turn off the find my iPhone. The email I used to start the iCloud account has the wrong @XXX. So the address has not been verified and the phone keeps trying to "verify". Al the areas are greyed out so I cannot put a different account in. When I try to delete account it prompts me for the password to the incorrectly typed @XXX address. So I tried to reset all settings but it then wants me to turn the find my iPhone option off, in order to do that!
