Shuffle won't play purchased music

Hello,

I recently bought an Ipod Video and I gave my shuffle to my wife. I have reformattted it to her computer, running the ipod updater. So it should be wiped clean and reformatted to her computer.

Her PC will recognize the shuffle and will allow her to drop and drag all songs onto it. But it will only play non-purchased music. In other words, all of my old cd collection that I copied. But it will not play any mp4 songs bought from itunes even though they show up on the itunes list as being on the shuffle.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!!

Steven,

Many thanks. I had the same issue of not being able to plan purchased songs on my older generation shuffle. I was actually able to play some purchased music and not others. Deauthorizing and reauthorizing the account did not help, but burning the songs to CD and importing them worked like a charm. I now have them in the playlist that I sync to my shuffle and they play as desired.

I've been having the same problems and I was already thinking of burning and reloading, but I've been refusing to do that because I feel shouldn't have to do so much work for a song I paid for. One thing I noticed is it only happens with newly released songs. I bought some Sinatra and the chairman plays no problems. But Jay-Z and Snoop's new albums sorry no dice. So what do I do burn one new song I just bought on a disc? Or should I not have that new song I really like on my iPod until I have a full discs worth of music? Discs are cheap I know, but the time and money will start to add up (besides being decidingly enviromentally UNfriendly). Really I just hope the good people at iTunes and Apple solve these little bugs because I haven't really had any other problems in about two years of having my shuffle. And it still plays everything else like a champ.

I have the same problem with my shuffle. New music from iTunes will play fine on the computer but when I transfer the song to my shuffle they will not play, the song is just skipped. I burned the song to an audio CD and imported back into iTunes overwriting the original song and re-transfered it to the shuffle and it play now. What is up with that? Why do I need to do that when I purchased the song from iTunes to start with? I am pretty sure is has to do with the protection that that song has but how Apple update the software for the shuffle so that is support the new protection formats.

Any ideas?

Can an apple person at least post here that they are looking into this problem???? And don't send me to that old tired "troubleshooting" link to restore the shuffle, etc, etc. It has been documemted by several people here that it doesn't do jack to fix this.

You see many posts here on this exact same problem. Why won't apple come out and at least say. "We know we have an unsolvable problem right now and we are working hard to find a solution. As soon as we find it, we will post it here immediately." Now how hard would that be?

I recently purchased several of Tupac's songs and I'm having the same issue. I'm glad it's just not me, I was starting to freak out for a minute. Anyway, burning songs to a cd that you already purchased only to put them back on seems pretty ridiculous.

As of note, this morning I did get Apple's latest Security update, does anyone know if that has anything to do with this?

Hello,

I was trying to find some (helpful) troubleshooting hints when I came across this article about the shuffle. Yesterday morning my iPod (whichever generation it is, about 2/3 years old now, with the click wheel but not the 4 buttons) suddenly decided to stop playing all the purchased music. It was all playing fine until yesterday morning when it just...stopped, for some reason.

I have music spread across my 2 computers (home and work) and connect my iPod to both - and have purchased music on both libraries. Whats interesting is that its stopped playing purchased music from both libraries, not just one, so it must be something inside the iPod thats just decided to stop working.

When I load the "5Rs" page, it doesnt actually load (maybe a safari problem?) so thats a whole lot of use. I'm wondering if I should try the burning thing, although I'm not sure my ibookG4 has burning capability (?), although I know the work PowerBook does.

So its not just shuffle, and its not just new songs....hmph!

Try Empty Cache in Safari:
Safari>Select Safari in the menu bar>Select Empty Cache>Click on Empty>Quit Safari.

Then

Launch Safari and see if you can access the 5 R's page.

I'm wondering if I should try the burning thing, although I'm not sure my ibookG4 has burning capability (?)

Click on the Closed Apple in the upper top left of your computer screen>Select About this Mac>Click on More Info.>Under Hardware drop-down menu>Select Disc or Disc Burning(obvious you can burn if you have this option).

hope this helps....
