Would love to help, but we need to know your iMac variant (iMacs have been in continuous production since 1998 in four broad families, all different), and your Mac OSX version. The Mac OS version and a good start at finding your family can be had by simply doing "About ths Mac" from the black Apple icon at the left end of your menubar. Doing so gives you this:

Please post what the two lines I've indicated in red read on your computer.

If you are using a Guest User account, none of the preference changes

will 'stick' between sessions; so if you have an Admin/access, set up an-

other account at a Standard User level of access.

As a Guest user, the account has limited access that implies. If someone

else administers the system in the computer, and you are known to use

it more than occasionally, have them set up a Standard account for you

and they could also modify it (no matter the age of user) through such a

selection of options noted in 'parental controls' area, among others.

To identify the details as requested does increase the odds immensely

due to the variable replies your general and vague question asks of us.

    Good luck!

In pre-Intel (PowerPC based Mac) their OS X versions are limited and features

were not the same in Leopard 10.5.8 as they were in later OS X. -- So while an

idea may be worth considering, the hardware and vintage device/software may

not like it... The thread you suggest is for a much less obsolete situation...

Did you try it, because it worked for me on the latest OS version.

The original post does not relate to the latest OS X version

nor does the location of this thread... PowerPC pre-Intel

Macs cannot run the latest versions, or any past 10.5.8.

Good that the answer you supplied works for you, but set

up a vintage PPC non-Intel mac running 10.5.8 or before

& see if that works. This is the rub -- where details matter.

    In any event...

Ok, you're right, I didn't see the breadcrumbs Apple Support Communities  /  Desktop Computers  /  iMac (PPC), sorry my mistake.
