I am buying a new ipad to support my grauduate school education. I was wondering if pages, numbers and keynote comes with the 3rd generation ipad or if it is only available on ipad air. I was also wondering if buying the 70$ microsoft office would be better than using pages, since I'm hoping to be able to transfer my ipad work onto my mac book. Thanks!

If you mean the iPad with Retina Display (as distinct form the iPad Air), then yes. The following link from the Apple store confirms it.
Also, I'd save your $70. If you get the iWork suite on your new iPad, you'll be able to download it onto your Macbook as well, and iCloud will sort the rest.
