The user guide says:
Here are ways to open the Styles drawer:
Click View in the toolbar and choose Show Styles Drawer. Click the Styles Drawer button in the Format Bar.
But there is no such option under View in the toolbar. And I don't see any such button either.

Thanks Peter, and yes you're right I am reading the 09 user guide. Is there such a thing as a proper 5.2 user guide? The documentation I've found so far is very basic. I'm trying to use Pages to format an e book and quite a lot of the functionality I need to use has drastically changed.
No, but you have an online help if you go to your Pages Help menu. It isn't as good as the Pages User Guide for Pages 09 though.
No you're right there fruhuida. The answer seems to be to do as others have done. Revert to the 09 version which is helpfully archived in an iWorks 09 folder in applications
