Extra paper tray (Q6459A) for HP2600n laser printer

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem:

I have a HP2600n laserjet and just got the extra paper tray for it that stacks underneath it to make it into a twin tray printer.

The tray unit is installed fine and can be seen in the web interface that you can use to look at the printer settings. I also have a PC (ugh) on the network and it prints to it fine.

However (and this must be a first!) whilst it was easy to set up on the PC and works fine with it.... it is a nightmare and won't install for the mac!

The instructions tell me to go to Printers, highlight the 2600n and then click on 'installable options' and it will be there....... it is not.

Any help that anyone can give me to get this this thing installed so that my mac does not have to hide its head in shame will be greatly appreciated.

HP lists the 2600n as a host based printer. It is not a PostScript printer. It also does not understand PCL.

Installable options are only for PostScript printers. For other printers, options such as a second paper tray or duplexing are found in the menu items under the "Copies & Pages" pop up menu in a print window. For using a second paper tray, try looking for a Paper Handling option in the pop up menu.
