How do I turn off my iPad without removing it from the Square Stand?

I have just started using the Square Stand POS in a new business. This system is giving me my first iPad experience, but I am familiar with using an iPhone 5. While my iPad is connected to the Square Stand and locked in place, I can't figure out how to turn the iPad off. The electricity went off in my shop today, and I wanted to turn off the iPad (to save the battery power), but I couldn't do that without removing the iPad its locked-in position. It seems like there should be a way to turn off the iPad without having to use the special tool to remove that tiny locking-screw. I could use help from someone who has experience using the iPad and the Square Stand POS. Thank you.

Thank you for that response deggi. I did put the iPad to sleep, but I wish to know how to turn it off without removing it from the Square Stand. I predict that I might drop/lose the locking-screw during removal of the iPad at the counter. I'm using the Square Stand and iPad in an ice cream shop. Hopefully, the electricity won't go off very often or for a very long time! 😉

I would rather have the power to turn off the iPad while it remains in the Square Stand, but I understand that I will need to rely on the sleep mode, rather than turning off the iPad.

I have contacted the Square Stand support center and requested a replacement screw or two and have received a reply that they are on their way. That was a good suggestion, deggie, thank you!

Hey Carla, I came across this thread because I too want to power down (not just sleep) while locked into my Square Stand. I believe a workaround would be to drill a hole (maybe 3/8-inch) through the stand (of course while iPad is removed), the hole being the same orientation as the security screw. All it would take is a little poke to access the power button. I'm not sure who owns the stand (I'm not good with fine print) but maybe this is an upgrade Square can do on their next version of the stand.

Hope this helps, I think I'm gonna give it a try.

Cheers...

Actually, there is a quite simple way that involves no drilling or modifications.

The iPad has a very small reed switch along the side of the case. This is what allows the Smart Cover to put an iPad to sleep with no button pressing.

You can mimic this same activity by placing a small magnet near the bottom edge of your iPad while it's in the Square stand.

This will have the same effect as closing a Smart Cover and will put your iPad to sleep.

I use a small neodymium magnet glued to the end of a stylus I bring along so customers can sign the iPad easier.
