Has anyone had the problem of the "set desktop background" option not working. I have deleted the picture I was using although it still appears, but now I can't make any changes. I have tried to reinstate the relevant picture but this doesn't work

Might be corrupted desktop preferences ..

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash.

Restart your Mac then try setting a desktop background.

I have the same problem but I can't find the com.apple.desktop.plist file via the finder - Go - Go to folder - ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

It simply does not exist..

Can anybody help me with this annoying problem?
