How can I recover my calendar from a backup disc?

My operating system was corrupted, so the Apple Store showed me how to back up my hard drive, and then erased the hard drive and restored the operating system (10.8.5). Now I'm trying to restore my pre-crash calendar to the Calendar program. The help files say:

Restore your calendars from a backup file

  • In Calendar, choose File > Import > Import.
  • Locate your Calendar backup file, and then click Import

But I can't find any instructions on how to locate my Calendar backup file. Where would it be, on the backup, or what would its tag ?

Thanks.

Hi pmonaghan3,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

You may be able to restore the data using the steps in this article if your hard drive was backed up using Time Machine:

Calendar: Back up and restore calendars

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11538

Restore your calendars from a backup file that was included in a Time Machine backup

If you use Time Machine and you saved a copy of your calendars (in a Calendar Archive backup file) somewhere on your computer but later deleted the file, you can use Time Machine to recover it.

  1. Open the location where you placed your Calendar file. For example, if the file was located in your Documents folder, open the Documents folder. If the file was located on your desktop, you don’t need to open anything.
  2. Open Time Machine.
  3. Using the arrows and the timeline along the right edge of your screen, browse through the backups until you find the Calendar backup file.
  4. Select the file, and then click Restore. The restored file is returned to its original location.
  5. In Calendar, choose File > Import > Import.
  6. Locate the restored Calendar file, and then click Import.

For more information about Time Machine, see this help topic: Back up files with Time Machine

Best Regards,

Jeremy

Jeremy:

Thanks for your reply. But, no, it wasn't backed up with Time Machine, but only by the method I describe.

I tried to use the method you excerpt here but as I wrote above, when I try to "locate your Calendar backup file, and then click Import > Import... " I can't locate my Calendar backup file because I don't know what I'm looking for.

Where would a Calendar backup file be, on a backup? Or, perhaps you can tell me: what kind of files would I be looking for e.g. file.acx... or file.duw... or what?

Thanks, much appreciated.
