I just connected my iPhone and it seems to be allowing me to back it up.  So doing that now.  At least if i need to erase it, i should be able to restore it from the back up later.

Still won't let me unlock it though.

Same issue. I'm also in Australia. My iPhone and iPad both don't have passcodes.

I have logged into iCloud and changed my password, I can see the hack message inside "Find my Phone" in iCloud.

I can see though that if I turn off Lost Mode the passcode the hacker set will still remain.

Has anyone called the police? It is a fraud attempt after all.

How can you see the hack message through Find My Phone?   Can this be turned off?  Feel like this gives the hackers access to our homes!

When I click on either of my devices in "Find My Phone" then click on Lost Mode the hack message is in there.

I presume my iCloud password was compromised. Not sure though. In any case since I didn't have passcodes on either device I can't figure out how to unlock. I found a thread which suggested it could only be taken to a repair centre if you've forgotten your passcode.

once you log into icloud on the computer, you can click on 'find my iphone' and then click devices up the top.  If you click on the device which has the lock symbol, you can click on lost mode to remove the message, however the hackers have put in a new passcode and therefore we still cannot access our devices. Really the problem now is, how do we get into the iphone if we dont have the passcode.  Can you? Or do you erase data and restore from back-up?

Here are instructions on how to restore your phone or ipad if you cannot remember your passcode which will probably help when you do not know it.

Ive turned on lost mode and changed my apple id hoping this may block the hackers but I'm still locked out too...   What if we erase and icloud is also compromised and we lose everything?

  • slcurtis Level 1 (0 points)

In this article it just says you can restore to factory settings and restore from backup

What if this doesnt work and we lose everything?

We've had the same thing occur in our house tonight on my husbands iPad and iPhone. iPad has pass code so seems it hasn't been compromised but iPhone has. Same as above hackers message in iCloud and phone currently disabled. Were also in West Australia. Any ideas or just wait until the morning and hope all will be ok? Have changed iCloud password, internet banking etc

unfortunately i don't think this will fix itself.... i have a feeling the only way to get it back is to erase the data.  Definitely only targeting devices without a passcode..

None of us seem to know what is going on.  Have done the same as you changed email, facebook, banking passwords, all i can think of..... are the Apple Stores going to be insane tomorrow morning?

I'm also reluctant to restore to factory. I still don't know how this happened, so I'm not sure if it can happen again.

So I just found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2700

    Specifically:

Note:   If you forget the passcode, or if you set an EFI firmware password on your Mac before it was lost, then lock it and later find it, you may need to take it to an authorized repair center to unlock it.

yeah, i'm thinking of calling them instead, as i don't think there is anything physically wrong with it. its obviously affecting the accounts only so they should be able to give assistance via phone.
