Can I make a backup on an error iPad ?

So I was going to update my iPad 2 iOS to iOS 7, but it failed. Now my iPad is error and it keeps on showing the " connect to iTunes " screen.

I have read this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and it said that I should restore my iPad in order to solve the problem.

But I really don't want to lose all my data in it. 😟 I have never make a back up of it. no iCloud back up either.

so is there anyway that I can make a back up of my iPad data first before I restore it?
