How do I sync Aperture albums within a project so that they stay grouped as an album?

My Aperture photos are organized by Projects with different albums within the projects. When I sync my Aperture Library to my iPad, i am able to select which ablums i would like to sync but they do not appear on the iPad as separate albums but as a large group of individual photos within a folder with their Project name. This is odd as why would i want all of my photos "flattened" into the project folder? This did not happen with my first iPad so something has obviously changed over time. I have over 55,000 photos in my Aperture Libarary so I am not keen on re-organizing it. I am running the latest IOS on my iPad 2 and the latest OSX and Aperture on my iMac and Macbook Pro.

First, is this the intended behavior for synchronizing photos from Aperture to the iPad?

Second, if yes, how can i overcome this limitation?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9), Aperture 3.5, iPad Retina (IOS 7.0.

As an experiment, try this way.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
