'Mail can't connect to the account 'hotmail.co.uk"

Hi

Bought my iMac at Xmas and has been fine but now I can't get my emails as I am getting the above message; same on my iphone. It's happened all if a sudden. Can anyone help me? I am a more senior female user so can you explain in layman's term please? Many thanks. (Hope I have submitted this correctly)
