FaceTime Camera Effects

I am a heavy facetime user. After going through menus and all sorts of stuff I found that in the messages app theres a video drop down menu in the menu bar. Does iMessage support video or does that just link to FaceTime? I heart that iChat has effects. Why would apple remove so many features from iChat when moving on to FaceTime and iMessages? Anyways, when I hit "video", theres a "show video effects" option that will open my camera and show me my camera with effects. My question here is, how do I use these effects on FaceTime so that others can see those effects? When I click on one of them no changes are made on FaceTime, nothing happens. I have tried using FaceTime from Mac to iPhone/iPad and Mac to Mac. No difference there.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7. 8 GB RAM

Hi,

FaceTime like iMessages has made the cross over from the iOS to the Mac.

Basically it is designed from the smaller processors of iOS devices.

Messages will invoke FaceTime to do video if you use the Video icon whilst in an iMessages conversation.

The Messages app will still do Video chat (and effects) when you are chatting from an AIM or Jabber valid Login.

To be clear the iMessages conversation with the use of the Video icon top right of the main Messages/Chat window starts up the FaceTime app to have a Video chat.

The FaceTime App does not have video effects.

As the Messages app is built on the the iChat engine for AIm, Jabber, Yahoo and Bonjour Chats only the Buddy lists for AIM, Jabber and Bonjour will do Video chats in Messages.

(Yahoo was added at iChat 6 but has never done Video)

The clarify even further:-

AIM valid IDs can (until the 30th June 2014) include @mac.com and @me.com names as well as @icloud.com names which will continue after the above date.

Jabber valid names include GoogleTalk ID based on GoogleMail IDs and also Facebook Chat IDs (Video and Audio Only will only work to other Macs)

iChat to AIM on PC used to be possible but since iChat 4 and AIM 6 on the PC the protocols at the AIM end have moved further apart and less compatible.

I have not been successful to anything higher than AIM 6.5 and that was intermittent.
