Is there anyway to get the iPhone alarm clock to ring only once?
How do I get it to ring once instead of me having to stop it ringing by me hitting ok on the home screen is there any way?

I found an app that does exactly what I was asking for, if anybody happens upon this thread.
Periodic Timer https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/periodic-timer/id933241656?mt=8
No.
I use a Fitbit. It syncs my iPhone alarm, so if my phone volume is down, I still get the vibration on my wrist. The Fitbit also has its own notifications that you can set up separate from your phone alarms. That way you have a virtually silent (the vibration motor does make noise) alarm that will hopefully only wake you up.
Has this been implemented yet?
I would love to use the timer. At my work I am constantly timing things. HOWEVER, the limited iPhone capability forces me to put my hand to the phone to get it to shutup when the timer goes off.
Why can't it beep only once like the text message chirp or something? How hard could it really be to do this?

To show why this is an issue for me. I work in a lab, where I wear gloves that either don't work with the phone screen or there is some wildly corrosive goop on my gloves. I don't want to damage my phone or ruin a 3-day chemistry experiment just to turn off the timer's sound.
It sounds as if your phone is not the right tool for the job. Buy a cheap timer with physical buttons that, if damaged by something corrosive can be replaced.
Thanks this is exactly what I am looking for as well, but I want something where I can set it to give a single (quiet) beep at a certain time (ie clock-based) with no snooze or need to roll over in bed and press anything - to use as a morning alarm when I get up for my ridiculously early yoga practice and not disturb the rest of the household 🙂 ... any ideas?
No one here could answer why Apple has made that particular UX decision. Submit feedback.
Alarmed is a fun app. It has a "Nag Me" option that will repeat the alarm every time interval. However, when the timer ends you still have to put your hand on your phone to get the phone to be quiet. Maybe there is a setting to change it, but the alarm sings for 30 seconds, which seems ridiculously long in the heat of the moment! I haven't found an option to change the alert duration.

Regardless of which example I happened to provide, I am still baffled as to why an end-of-timer alert cannot be a single audible/vibrational event.
Edit: Also, I have the same complaint against "cheap timers with physical buttons".

The options for an alarm are what is available with the alarm settings.

You might take a look at Alarmed by Yoctoville. It's an extremely feature rich timer program.
You can submit your feedback to Apple requesting other features here
I agree. This feature would be perfect for yoga. Many times I am in a pose and have to come out of the pose quickly to turn it off. I have been looking for a timer that can do this for a long time.
I like periodic timer app. You can set it to repeat at a given interval. Say every 30 seconds it will beep once but I wish this app would allow you to set it for 30 seconds - it beeps once with no repeating intervals.
There are tons of interval timers, many of them specifically designed for yoga. The alarm function on the phone is no more appropriate for that than is a standard beside alarm clock.
