iMovie won't open properly

iMovie won't open properly. I tried reinstalling it and it still won't open. Any ideas? I attached a screenshot so you can see what I'm talking about.

It might be worth trying to launch again with the Console app running. The messages there might give some clues to the problem. Whether imovie(and FCP 10.1) will launch seems to be very sensitive to minor problems in one's user configuration and any one of these can stall the startup and results in a hang. I have had this problem from time to time and each time it has eventually resolved itself .

Recently my iMovie 10 and FCP10.1 would not launch after updating to OS10.9.3. Sometime later I launched Excel and it reported some font-related activity. After that both could launch normally again. I also suspect that the SIMBL enabler, needed for useful system hacks, may sometimes play a role though not always since I have it installed and can usually run iMovie without problems.

I think its very unlikely that the actual iMovie application will get corrupted and the fact that it will usually launch when one boots as a guest proves this (a guest account will be 'clean').

This is what I get when I try to open iMovie. I also tried deleting the prefecences and it didn't change anything.

It evidently starts writing the window (as shown in your screen shot) but then has trouble finding some files. I don't know what these files are since the absolute hex addresses are not very informative.

Try launching imovie while holding down the 'alt' key. You should get a window asking which library you want to open, but it also offers to create a new one (button "New....). Press this an create a new library. If the problem is in your exisiting library then imovie will not try to load it and it may start up OK. If you have more than one library you could then try opening a different one from the one giving problems. If all is well you then could try opening the problem library and try to find which event is causing the problem.
