iphone cannot read my contacts

I don't know how, but somehow my iPhone has lost the ability to read my sim contacts, I have restarted my iPhone and taken the sim out and cleaned it. I have gone through all of the setting and I cannot see any option to import sim contacts. All i have is the option to import them is to Outlook and Facebook.

There was a carrier update to GiffGaff - but I don't see how that can stop my phone from reading my contacts?

The iPhone does not access or read contacts stored on a SIM card with another cell phone. The iPhone does not store contacts or any other data on the SIM card.

The iPhone includes an option to import contacts that were stored on a SIM card used with another phone.

The option to import contacts stored on the SIM card used with another phone is available at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > below the Contacts section - Import SIM Contacts.

Are you syncing contacts over the air with an Apple iCloud account or with another email account that supports doing the same such as with a Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo account?
