Mail just stopped receiving my Ukonline pop3 emails

HI,

I have been using mail to send/receive my emails from several different accounts for a while now. All has been fine until a week ago when my ukonline emails just stopped being downloaded. I can still access them using webmail and can still send emails through Mail. My other accounts (not with Ukonline) all send and receive just fine. Its just the Ukonline account will not download my new messages. Ukonline say their servers are fine and it must be a problem my end. I have checked all the details ie pop3.ukonline.co.uk with my correct password etc - as I say it used to work fine then just stopped? Any ideas?

Hi Lee.

Could it be that Mail or this particular account is in an "offline" state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?

Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail checked or unchecked?

For POP accounts, Mail uses a file within the account folder to keep track of which messages have already been downloaded. Deleting that file causes Mail to treat everything still on the server as if new and try to download it again, so this is something to try:

1. Quit Mail.

2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.

3. Locate one or two files named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded and move them to the Trash. Mail 1.x used MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded to keep track of which messages had already been downloaded. Mail 2.x uses MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 for the same purpose.

And yet another thing to try is removing some messages from the server (download them with another mail client such as Thunderbird first, to avoid losing them). Sometimes, Mail chokes on a message it cannot download, and that prevents Mail from downloading the rest as well.

Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.
