I have been bugging my husband for a new phone, the iPhone 5s of course!
My plan expires in November and I want to switch companies with a better plan.
My question is, if we buy it from the Apple Store, would I be able to switch carriers?
There is no point on buying one from my current carrier and switching in 6 months!!

That depends... Unlocked iPhones are not sold in every country. If you live in a country where Apple sells unlocked iPhones, then you can buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple and use it with any compatible GSM carrier.
An unlocked iPhone can NOT be used with any CDMA carrier (e.g. Verizon, Sprint, etc.).
I live in Ontario, Canada. Not too sure if they sell them unlocked or not. Just wanted to know before I make the long trip to Apple Store!

The Apple Stores in Canado do sell unlocked iPhones, I believe, but you'll want to make sure your local store has the model you want in stock. Or you can order from the online Apple Store for local pickup or shipment directly to you:
