I have been working on several projects in imovie this weekend with no problems and this morning imovie will not open at all. Help! Is there any way to fix the problem without losing my work?

Everyone seems to be having this problem at the moment.
Trashing preferences and opening after logging in as a guest are the usual first things to try but

What happens when you try to open it?
(2:55pm) I've been waiting for iMovie to start for a few minutes -- reading for solutions, finally got to the "start screen / What's New in iMovie?" . . .w/ beachball spinning. While force+quit 'ed a couple of times . . . I haven't used iMovie in a while, so I think it's trying to load a bunch of footage.
(2:58pm) Ok, so now footage starting to appear . . .
Solution: Give it about 5-10min . . . I know, kind of silly to have to wait.
v10.0.4 did it to me, too. No discernible reason. But I got around the problem by holding down Alt/Option key when I ran iMovie and then chose to create a new Library.
imovie will not open
