VTR?

I have a sony handycam.

I read the imovie manual and it said I have to plug in the camcorder and then make sure it is in vtr mode. My camcorder does not have a vtr button. Does that mean I just make sure it is in edit mode when I plug it into my computer?

What model Sony Handycam? Did it record to mini-DV tape?

I believe VTR mode = Playback (/Rec) mode i.e. the mode where you can playback the tape and see what's in it. In that mode you may also be able to record material that comes through the DV/analog input wires to the camcorder. I.e. you can use the camcorder as a Video Tape Recorder in that mode.

Camera mode is the opposite i.e. the mode which allows you to record footage through the camcorder lens to the tape.
