Settings > iCloud.

Turn off Notes in Settings > iCloud.

Then settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap the iMap account then turn on Notes.

Do the same on the MacBook.

System prefs > Internet Accounts.

Open the iMap account then turn on Notes.

You don't have to use iCloud, but you do have to use an IMAP mail server.

They are sync'd thru the iMap mail account.

You don't want to use iCloud (or anything like it) but that's exactly what syncing thru an iMap account is doing.

iTunes doesn't sync mail or notes at all. The only way that data syncs is via a mail server. If your notes are somehow ending up as mail, the only way I can think of for that to happen is that the server is garbling them. That's the sort of thing Gmail might do.

The notes are in each individual iCloud account & they are still on my phone.

But they have dissappeared form my laptop.

Make sure you have the iCloud accounts set up on your Mac.

They are set up. I had checked that out.

and make sure Notes are enabled in these accounts on the Mac.
