Mavericks=No Java

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have never had Java running on internet sites, Safari and Firefox.

Even the Apple support people in Istanbul were not able to solve the issue.

I have tried each and every recommendation given in this forum, no success.

Java -version in terminal shows Java installed on macbook.

When I update Java to the latest version, Java site says "Java successfully installed" but when click "check java on your computer", I see no Java.

I have come to the conclusion that Java does not work on Mavericks. That disappoints me because there are several sites with Java which I definitely need.

MacBook Air, iOS 7.0.4, Mavericks

Thank you very much for the tip Lanny,

Either I'm terribly stupid or my configuration is terribly wrong, but I couldn't have it working.:)

I uninstalled the old version of Java, installed the new version (this version must be very new, I couldn't find it before), but still no success. Even the Java site cannot verify that I have the latest version of Java.

What am I not doing or what am I doing wrong? Please enlighten me and I'll buy you a gorgeous dinner. 🙂

I noticed that the web pages were not up to date. However, if you use the Java Control Panel in System Preferences and click on the Update tab, if you still have version 7, it will show the update available button that updates it version 8.

It's been that way for a least the last 2-3 weeks.

Then there is this curious web page:
