Q: just updated itunes and now my ipad will not finish sync?

after updating itunes, went to sync my ipad and it gets to the last sync and just stalls, will not end by itself.

Any suggestions?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

I am not sure what stage of syncing you are experiencing this issue. However, it sounds like you may be experiencing this issue when syncing photos. If that is the case try the steps in the article below.
