can receive but cannot send mail.
When I try to send mail or reply to a mail it goes directly to the outbox and never, never goes out. I can only send e-mails by using something like gmail or hotmail.

What does Mail/Window/Connection Doctor Show? If the server is red, select it and look at the Show Details box.
Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
Ran Connection Doctor. The stmp (?) shows red. The account (att.net) is green and way at the top is green saying connected to the internet. Directions on the red STMP said to chack connections and possibly change the SSL (checked) in Advanced of Accounts. I did this but not a solution and changed it back to original setting.
Clicking on "Show Details" brings up absolutely nothing.
My other and older Mac works fine in mail. I compared all the numbers and settings and they look the sme to me.
I am not a tech person as you can tell.
Have you tried deleting the account and adding it back?
I have not tried to delete and then add again. Not sure how to do this.... just delete the account ➖ and the add + the exact same information?
I noticed that on the account info page where it lists outgoing server it has (offlne) after the smpt.
Yes for deleting the account.
Does the Show Details box show anything if you select the server?
can receive but cannot send mail.
