iTunes.exe - High CPU usage - Windows 7 64bit

After the recent update, I've noticed a massive increase in the CPU usage for iTunes.

I've had a look around at other posts to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue but can't find anything that's specific to Windows 7 64bit (plenty of XP problems though!).

As you can see in the image, it's maxing out at 99-100% but never dropping below 85%.

Please note that I'm not actually doing anything within iTunes itself. Not playing music, not synchronizing - nothing. In fact all I was doing at this point was waiting for the usage to get below 90% so I could capture a lower example.

Anyone got any ideas?

iTunes version: 11.2.0.115

System Details:

Windows 7 64-bit

AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.80GHz

4GB RAM

Thanks in advance.

I think I may have fixed it myself.

After checking for updates, I found that I was a version out - so I updated. Unfortunately this made it even worse with the CPU at a constant 100%.

I noticed that the iCloud icon was constantly moving. In preferences I unchecked "Always check for available downloads" under Store. This stopped the iCloud icon scrolling.

When I restarted iTunes, Task Manager now looks like this:

Drastic difference....

Whilst I'm overjoyed that my PC is now running as it should, I'm a little bit peeved that I've had to switch a function of iTunes off that was pretty useful.
