Q: Wi-fi: not configured... how to solve this?

Hi y'all!

I am trying to help my boyfriend with a problem with the internet connection on his MacBook Air. We hade problems with internet in the whole house, but he thought something was wrong with his MacBook and in an attempt to fix the problem, he only made things worse.

At the moment when clicking on the wifi symbol in the top bar, it says "Wi-Fi: not configured" and though networks are listed, none can be selected. It seems that in the networkpanel under systempreferences there is no wifi-service available on the left side. I have tried to add a new one, but when I select the + (Create a new service) and then Wifi under interface, nothing happens. The Wifi is not added to the list on the left.

I have no idea what he has done (and neigther does he) so I can't retrace his steps, and I really don't know how to fix it. I hope someone here on this forum has an idea.

Many thanks!
