Oct 17, 2014 11:14 AM in response to whatevvaby cicada11,I see Apple is releasing iOS 8.1 on Monday 10-20-14 under the guise of releasing Apple Pay. Apple seems to think hearing aid clients are the same as car Bluetooth clients and that we can just wait until their next great Apple Pay release to help us hear again. The Apple Pay event was more important to them than offering the hearing aid clients a quick upgrade to beta 8.1 to fix our Bluetooth problem now instead of waiting for the "Greatest Show on Earth" on Monday the 20th when they introduce Apple Pay. In the meantime, I am off to my sister's funeral with no hearing aids and will not be able to hear anyone. Way to go Apple, pony up for the money, but when your clients need you, stick your head in the sand and play ostrich! Now I am beginning to understand why Steve Jobs meant so much to Apple. He cared, Apple doesn't, they just want more money. It is absurd that all the people with hearing aids are made to wait until Monday to get their **** hearing back!! I can't wait to let Apple control my thermostat in the middle of winter or the lock on the front door of my house.I would freeze to death, be locked out or in my house, and would starve because I can't cook, all because dear Apple thinks Bluetooth is a toy. Now, Apple wants everyone to pay for anything they buy with Apple Pay. Won't that be nice when that technology stops working with one of Apple's wonderful future updates and you can't even buy gas, groceries or medicine! Bluetooth has been around for years and I guess Apple needs Steve Jobs to come back from death to help fix a simple problem in a timely manner. Maybe when he comes back, he can teach the remaining fools at Apple what customer service is, wheat testing is and what Quality Assurance means!

Oct 17, 2014 11:22 AM in response to cicada11by OldGnome,I don't follow your argument. the TruLink app is an enhancing app for your hearing aids. My hearing aids work fine without it. I only use the app to "shift gears" when I am answering the phone or finishing a call.
What am I missing here?

Oct 17, 2014 11:32 AM in response to OldGnomeby SantafeNM,iPhone 6 does not stay reliably connected to the hearing aids making them difficult to adjust plus streaming telephone calls is very hit and miss. Mosty miss.

Oct 17, 2014 11:39 AM in response to SantafeNMby OldGnome,OK
That still doesn't equate to "hearing aids don't work."
-
Oct 17, 2014 11:46 AM in response to OldGnomeby SantafeNM,I Guess that depends on how much and how frequent a person needs to adjust them. When a connection cannot be made no adjustment is available. Thus I understand the "does not work" comment.

Oct 17, 2014 1:18 PM in response to SantafeNMby Cmjabo,I got the iPhone 6 last week despite everyone saying it was unreliable. I figured if I had to use my iPad I would use that until the update. I do have one advantage, that I only use one hearing aid because I have no hearing on the right. I have had some connectivity issues with my iPhone 6, but not to the point that I can't use them. Someone on this forum mentioned that if you turn WiFi off it connects better. Since I have turned WiFi off I have had fewer problems. I go everyday to the gym and listen music or my audiobook and have not had a problem. I have Meniere's Disease and my hearing fluctuates and if I wasn't able to turn the volume up or down it would be an issue, but my hearing aids still work. So not sure why cicad11 you feel that you can't use your hearing aids. Something is better than nothing.
Though I do agree that Apple has been extremely slow in fixing this problem. As people have said in earlier posts, we aren't playing games we are using these devices (that we paid a lot of money for) so that we may hear. There are days I couldn't function at work without my hearing aid.

Oct 17, 2014 1:24 PM in response to Cmjaboby SantafeNM,MAcRumours website quote "Finally, iOS 8.1 may bring several bug fixes, including a fix for an ongoing Bluetooth issue that has caused some iOS 8 users to have trouble pairing their phones with their Bluetooth devices. Apple has not provided a time for the release of iOS 8.1, stating only that it plans to release the software on Monday." We will see.

Oct 18, 2014 12:21 PM in response to cicada11by Parrish Jones,I'm sorry that you are having to go to your sister's funeral at all, but I find this argument completely uncalled for. My hearing aids have begun connecting almost flawlessly. I don't know if my iPhone is learning or what but I can now leave my Bluetooth on and as soon as the hearing aids come on, they connect no fussing around. Maybe you are not finding the same thing happening so I am sorry about that. I've not opened TruLink in two weeks. I use the triple click to adjust. They work fine with the phone.
The idea that Apple moved faster with Steve Jobs is like people wanting to return to ROnald Reagan's golden age. It didn't exist and won't come back. New releases under his leadership had similar problems. With iPads, one release left us unable to connect to wireless devices. It took forever to work the problem out because there are so many kinds of devices out there.

Oct 19, 2014 8:13 AM in response to Parrish Jonesby OldGnome,Parrish - Thanks for your input here. That's the point I was trying (rather clumsily) to make.
I have had zero problems with my Halos and my two iPhones (a 5C and a 5S) from the beginning, regardless of iOS version.
Software, hardware and peripherals are all highly complex - a complexity I think we fail to realize as these devices have become ubiquitous. It really is impossible to rest every iteration of every operating system, option, device and wavelength against each other. Developers and inventors take a significant amount of time to test these things, but there are always some that do not get tested. Are Starkey Halos among the untested? Anecdotal evidence would indicate they very well could be.
Does this further indicate that hearing aid wearers are being ignored by an entire industry? That is unlikely.
The key to remember is that devices, operating systems and firmware are constantly leapfrogging each other. One will introduce a variable or option that renders something on another invalid or obsolete. I have been in IT since 1979 and I can see no other way for this industry to operate, lacking some sort of centralized control of development and manufacture. I do not want that and I don't think many of us do.
As for Reagan, let's talk about him elsewhere, shall we?

Oct 19, 2014 8:52 AM in response to OldGnomeby LanB22,nothing clumsy about that comment, I actually found it rather eloquent!
a couple FYIs, the blue tooth issue is definitely affecting many different forms of devices. I upgraded my husband to an iphone 6 on sept. 19th, he is out of town at the moment, he calls me yesterday and tells me no matter what he does his BT headset won't connect. I had him turn off wifi, BT and power phone down. Turn off the headset and then start it all up again in reverse order. Worked perfectly. He can't get the phone to connect to Ford Sync in his truck. We will see what happens after the upgrade.
I emailed Starkey, I do have direct contact with the audi that fit my aids there. I told her about the issue with the batteries lasting less than a day, she had me send both aids for testing even though the problem is just with the right aid. I will report back on the findings. In the mean time I am back to using my Wi aids with surf link, which makes me appreciate the quality of sound from the Halos even more. With or without the phone integration the Halos allow me far superior hearing.
fingers crossed that Monday's upgrade improves compatibilty with 6, as I have now activated mine and returned the 5.
I really appreciate everyone that takes the time to report their experiences here. prior to finding this forum I was alone and adrift with my issues.

Oct 19, 2014 2:27 PM in response to LanB22by SantafeNM,My fingers are crossed as well. It seems that the connectivity issue is very inconsistent between users and devices. Some people posting have had few issues and others major problems. Saying "mine works so there is no problem" as some have is not helpful. Mine will connect for days and then will suddenly reduce the sound level to zero and no amount of turning various things on and off will bring the connection back. Then after a few days it returns with no help from me. Same with the Bluetooth connection in my Audi and the iPhone.
CLearly for for some of us it is a frustrating experience.

Oct 19, 2014 3:20 PM in response to SantafeNMby whatevva,This may not be totally Apple's problem. My first set of 110's would connect for anything! One died after 6 weeks and I returned both. They sent a new set with no explanation, but these connect perfectly. I'm convinced that the first units manufactured may have had issues, that have been corrected with later releases.

Oct 19, 2014 3:40 PM in response to whatevvaby okiejack,Tomorrow's the great test. I turned an iPhone 6+ back within the 30 day period ... didn't work on HA's. Works all the time on my 5s. My wife has a 6 and, I will use it as a test vehicle (after being upgraded to iOS 8.1) before exchanging the 5s (again) for a 6+

Oct 19, 2014 3:42 PM in response to okiejackby okiejack,PS: couldn't be more pleased that the Halo's with the 5s. Everything works reliably.

I did not raise Reagan as a political argument but in reference to the romanticism for past ages we think were somehow gilded when they were not.
