Sep 22, 2014 8:33 AM in response to Parrish Jonesby OldGnome,That is exactly where your audiologist can help. I have a "Restaurant" setting that she fine-tuned for me.

Sep 22, 2014 9:22 AM in response to OldGnomeby LanB22,Parrish, are you aware that you can use the microphone option to focus on conversation, works great when in a restaurant. At the bottom of the trulink app on the right, select microphone, you can put your phone in the middle of the table, the phones mic will pick up the conversation and stream it to your aids. You can even record what is being said if you want to and save the recording to play back later. I previously had wii aids with surf link. The surf link remote had a similar option that allowed you to focus and stream conversation, it is much clearer through the halos. Partially because the halos use different technology for programming, It is the most advanced system being used right now. Starkey has an office in Minnesota at their corporate headquarters. Anyone can make an appointment to see them. They don't advertise, so as not to take business from their distributors. But the audis there are experts on programming, particularly for difficult to adjust losses. It is about 500 miles from me, but worth the trip for the quality of service. I actually drove up there on a Thursday night, saw them on Friday, left with my new aids friday afternoon. I stayed overnight, went to Mall of America to test out the different settings, went back to Starkey on Saturday for minor adjustments and drove home. I can go to my local audi if needed, might have to pay for a "service call", since I didn't buy the aids from her. Or I can send them to Starkey for repair. I had to send my Wiis back once during the 3 years I wore them, I sent them overnight on a Monday, had them back on Wed. or Thursday of the same week. In my experience Starkeys customer service has been outstanding. My Wiis still work fine, I have them for back up if needed, but the Halos are so much better, I will only use the Wii, if the Halos have to go in for repair. If you continue to have challenges you might contact Starkey Hearing Technologies Center of Excellence in Eden Prairie MN. Even if you don't go there, they can probably help you find the best methods to use the aids and app for your specific situation. I will forever be indebted to them for vast improvement to my quality of life.

Sep 22, 2014 11:20 AM in response to LanB22by SantafeNM,Warning the iPhone 6 does not work with the Starkey Halo's. No advice from Starkey Customer & Tech support regarding a fix.
-
Sep 22, 2014 11:25 AM in response to SantafeNMby LanB22,What issues are you having with the iphone 6, I have mine, but have not activated it yet. Starkey just posted on their Starkey Hearing facebook page the other day that the Halos are compatible with iOS 8 and iPhone 6. I am waiting for my case to arrive before I make the switch. Leary about doing so until some says they have done it successfully.

Sep 22, 2014 11:35 AM in response to LanB22by SantafeNM,TruLink crashes, iPhone 6 will see Halos but the controls have no impact, Starkey tech support said they recommend not using the 6. Too late for me.
I cannot make adjustments to the sound level, telephone calls are I mono and very weak.

Sep 22, 2014 11:59 AM in response to frankericby GaryDiver,I have the same issue with the iPhone 6 / iOS 8. Starkey has updated their info and now says this combination does not work (and I definitely agree!). If you're just using iOS8, for example, with a iPhone 5, it's OK. Just the iOS8/IPhone6 have the problem. Do not switch to this, if you don't have a fall back. In my case, I am using my old iPhone 5 to control the Halo's.

Sep 22, 2014 12:46 PM in response to patstarkeyby GaryDiver,If you send Starkey a feedback note (you can do this from the Trulink application), they will send you the info. They are sending me the stuff I've mentioned, and will (I'm guessing) update those who've written them.

Sep 22, 2014 12:55 PM in response to GaryDiverby SantafeNM,Starkey has just posted an update here: http://trulinkhearing.com/faq
Tech Support believes it will require an Apple iOS update to fix. That could take weeks.

Sep 23, 2014 5:38 AM in response to LanB22by Parrish Jones,I was aware of the microphone option. I'd never record a private conversation for any purpose, I don't want anyone to be confronted with an offhand remark later in life especially me. :-) I live in Florida, a trip to Minnesota is not going to happen. My Audi is at the Starkey convention so I hope he comes home with some better info.
Thanks for the note. I'm not upgrading to iPhone 6. I only upgrade every other time. ATT has this plan that you pay a monthly fee and get to upgrade every year. However, the price seems pretty steep. What I wish fro in some update is making the hearing aid features more readily available. To have to work down through the prefs several times a day is crazy. Of Course, if the HAs would auto connect every time that would help. I have to take my aids out several times a day because I ride motorcycle with helmet and I can't figure out how to get the helmet off without dragging the aids off. I also have an in helmet system that I can hear much better, can answer and make calls if need be, even send siri texts and listen to texts with push of the button. If I used the aids, I'd not be able to do that. Anyway when I take the aids out, I turn them off to avoid confusion. Maybe I should try leaving them on to see if there is ever confusion but I think if I got a call the phone may not know which system to send the call to.
Problems, problems. Such is life in the world of technology, but then it beats not having such options.

Sep 23, 2014 6:12 AM in response to Parrish Jonesby LanB22,If you leave them on and they stay connected, but you want to use the system in your helmet you should see connection options when you place a call. My car has sync, which is a blue tooth system, my phone connects automatically when I get in the car. I also have a LG Tones blue tooth head set, If I have all 3 connected at the same time, I get a pop up on the phone that shows those 3 options as well as iPhone and speaker. The one that is being used as a check next to it. If you want to use an alternative connection you simply click it. If you need to change during a call on the screen that shows the number your calling there are 6 circles, on the top row upper right it says speaker if nothing is BT connected. When you have devices connected it has a BT symbol. Click it and you get the same pop up with a list of all your BT connected options. Sometimes I answer a call and my aids have dropped their connection and the call does not stream. I click the sound options click hearing aids and usually connect.
I desparately need to upgrade, my 5 has no battery life. I already have the 6 but have not yet activated it. Waiting for someone to say it is working for them in the wild...anyone??

Sep 23, 2014 6:15 AM in response to LanB22by Parrish Jones,I understand what you say, but I'm on a motorcycle. I can't glance at my phone. I guess I could get a handlebar holder for it, but it'd be too distracting. While riding a motorcycle anything that distracts is a danger, or better put, more dangerous than in a car.

Sep 23, 2014 6:23 AM in response to Parrish Jonesby LanB22,check out this link Parrish, it might work for you, if you connect the aids first, then connect helmet system, the call should go to the helmet system while it is on, and then revert back to your aids once the helmet system is no longer connected.
