Q: Menu Frozen.  Can't Add Track. Tracks Won't Work...But OK with Guest User.

v. 10.0.7

OS 10.9.3

Just updated. Had big hassle getting the update to recognize Audio Units. Finally got that okay.

But now. Menu Frozen, nothing can be selected

Can't even add a track.

When I click on tracks that are there, the icon turns to a Hand Grab and won't let go.

I have to Force Quit to exit the program.

Same problem with Garage Band -- both both programs work a-okay if I log in as Guest User.

Sometimes....when deleting all preferences it may work okay, but just on the next launch.

!?

I've tried:

1. Starting up in Safe mode; problem persists.

2. Resetting PRAM; no change

3. Repairing Permissions; same problem.

Any ideas?

See the section on deleting Logic's preferences in particular.....

As mentioned in OP: "Sometimes....when deleting all preferences it may work okay, but just on the next launch."

But now that's not even helping.

And the problem has spread to trying to use it with Guest User.

    Bummer.

I guess, for whatever reason, v. 10.0.7 doesn't work well on my machine.

When you have to force quit.. copy the log for that period of time for Logic Pro from the Console app in Applications/utilities and post it up..... so we can see what the root cause may be...

    Off the wall thought..

You said you had deleted all Logic preferences including the CS one yes?

if not do so and restart your Mac... and test

    If so....

Have you been using Logic Remote (or another Logic controller app ) on an iPad or iPhone? if so, shut the iPad or iPhone off (not just put to sleep) and test......

if that works.. its because you have not been quitting the app on your iPad/iPhone after use so its still active and interfering with Logic.

Also do the same with any hardware controllers...or other hardware like non apple trackpads, mice.. drawing tablets etc.... Shut down your Mac... Unplug them, restart your Mac and test (using the musical typing keyboard)  and see if you get the same issues...

This will help eliminate any external sources of your issue.

Yes.. it could be.. What Midi interface are you using? Any drivers for it?

Have you deleted any no longer used (or never used but installed by other apps)  midi drivers from your Mac?

System Library (Not user Library)/Audio/Midi Drivers

Leave the emagic one alone..... Move any others out of there to another location on your HD.. restart your Mac and test....

Also check the User library version of the same folder just in case....

Btw.. given all works well in the Guest account, the quick and dirty workaround (until the cause is found..) would be to create a new Admin account and use that with Logic....

The suggestions, above, has inspired me to keep on keeping on -- I DID just get and use the Logic Remote App with my iPad (very cool). So I will check all that out.

Did have old drivers for both Korg Midi interface and Yamaha.

I'm waiting for OS 10.8 (expected soon)...will install that. Will reinstall both Garage Band and Logic on that.

Also paid more attention to Console and found this:

(when testing with Garage Band...which has also gone 'wonky' again.

The Error Message: (Error) Import: BAD IMPORTER - doesn't sound good.

Attached photo of what 'wonky' looks like

    GarageBandSnapz001.png

In attached photo on far left is what my curson icon turns into; never seen before; looks like a cell phone!?

In 'wonky' state all I can do is move around and endlessly past more instances of Track I've selected.

No menu items work. Everything else frozen. Have to force quit.
