How to remove write protection on an SD card

Hi I have just bought a fuji camera with a detachable lens has soon as I added the lens to the camera it said that I must update the firmware on my new lens no problem I thought the instructions said down load the appropriate firmware onto your desktop then format the sd card in your camera then put the card into a card reader then add the downloaded firmware to your sd card then put the card back into the camera the problem is ithe sd card will not let me add any files to my card it says write protection on an SD card please can somebody please tell me How to remove write protection on an SD card.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi, William thanks for your reply, but moving the little plastic slider,up or down,didn't help.I still can't drop any files on to,my sd card, I have even tried putting tape around it,still nothing works.Went out and bought another sd card,guess what! Same problem.

How is the card formatted?

You can check this in Disk Utility.

Macs can read and write Microsoft FAT format. Microsoft NTFS format is read only unless you get a copy of this: http://www.tuxera.com/products/tuxera-ntfs-for-mac/

Hi thanks for you advice I have now sorted it all it was my card reader didn't support these new cards that have high speeds.thanks anyway.Pete

SD cards have a little plastic tab on them that you can flip back and forth. Find that on the card and flip it the other way.

Also, you may wish to try a little punctuation next time 🙂
