I would like to upgrade OS X 10.5.8 (leopard) to OS X 10.6 (snow leopard) and bought the DVD from apple store. Forgot however that my DVD player in my macbook pro is not working anymore (never use it!). What can i do? I have a PC with a DVD player. Can i copy the contents of the DVD to a USB stick on the PC, and then upgrade the Macbook pro from the stick? Or is there another solution?

No, you can't use your PC. Find another Mac with a working optical drive. Clone the DVD to an 8 GB or larger USB flash drive partitioned and formatted for OS X.
