QuickTime Player 7 can be used with the additional software downloads to view those formats.
Maybe Perian will help?
Downloaded what software? There are a few listed in Klaus1's link. Flip4Mac Player used to be free. It's now $5.95.
Don't install Perian. Development stopped on it a while back. Which means, though not a high risk, someone could devise malware to get past a bug in the Perian player. With no further development, that means such an exploit would also never be fixed.
Also, as 213JB noted, the free VLC Player will play back darn near anything.

It's been taken over by another developer:
Good to know! Thanks, Barney-15E.
