Yes, Apple dropped support for Final Cut Express and Final Cut Studio in une, 2011.
There are several video converters available. One of the best (and free) is MPEG Streamclip available from www.squared5.com When converting footage for editing in FCE, convert to AIC (for HD footage) or QuickTime DV (for SD footage). Any other formats will require extensive rendering in FCE.
