Q: can someone help me read my panic ?

I run my 512GB flash drive dual boot with bootcamp, and this was my latest panic today. I had one before, and I have to say that I had problems to start my computer, my computer was showing me the grey screen for some minutes until it finally booted. I did nvram/pram reset and that fixed the boot problem. Anyway here is my log from the kernel panic:

    Barney --

I would be curious to see if our poster here removed just one of the three 8GB chips.  Then he would be running matched pairs.  Then test to see if there are any panice with the pair.

That will help isolate the problem, but it could be that the singleton is just bad and the other two are good.

To test the RAM by trial and error, you would have to put them in as pairs, changing the pairings until you find no panics. If all three pairings produce panics, then at least two would be suspect.

    Right.

    I hope we haven't lost our poster . . .

We promise it really isn't difficult.  It just reads that way.

I just removed one ram chip, the one that doesn't fit if you look at the serial number of those chips. I ran Rember, and no problems at all:

You should run several loops, and not all of your RAM can be tested.

Beyond that, you have a hardware problem. You'll have to take it in to an Apple Store or repair center to have it fully checked.

Although RAM spec may remain the issue, it is curious to me that the OP posts crash reports from two different implementations of OS X, as though this wouldn't matter to respondents here.  The first crash report was from Mac OS Version 13C1021, and the second was from Mac OS Version 13D65.

I'm not sure it matters. The first could have been related to the regulate and rythm extensions, but the second is a page fault. There are no other non-hardware indications.

that's because I updated my OSX from 10.9.2 to 10.9.3 but the strange thing is, I was sure that I ran 10.9.3 already. I noticed today, that when I opened some App (VLC, BetterZip for example) this massgae poped up: Do you really want to open an App not from the App Store, a Massage which only comes up if you open it the first time after installing. But I had these App running some days/weeks on my Mac. The guy that sold me this mac bought me an 8GB chip and will send it to me this week, than I have full 4x8GB chips all the same seriel number and 100% matching then I will test it again, and if I still got kernel panics I let Apple pic my mac up and they can look into it.

Something else, my flash drive is a 500gb samsung 840 series drive which is connected via SATA, I wonder why it's not a flash drive with PCIe, like Apple told us once. Is this because the previous owner opended it and changed the HDD to this SSD ??

thanks alot for all your help,

    Conr4d

Edit: no kernel panic and crashes today, puh :-)

no kernel panics atm, I put in the new mushkin chip, rember shows this:

the memory check is running as I write this, but I will run rember I think 5 more times after this, to be sure. One quick question; is it better if I run rember in safe mode or in normal mode ?

I'm not sure. I imagine it would have greater access to memory, but I don't think it would matter.

I read somewhere how to run memtest from Single User mode, but I cannot find that, now.

    I would agree.

That one out of sync stick of RAM was indeed your problem.

Glad you stuck with us, and got it solved.

    >>How can I find out about this ????

Surely, Apple can tell you the spec that it was shipped with ?.

You wouldn't be the first person to find their newish iMac having kernel panics due to memory, even when that memory checked out perfectly with Rember & was even factory-fitted by Apple.

According to this, Apple would custom build it with a 512GB SSD "Fusion" drive setup.

Yours says 500GB. I don't know if that is marketing or an actual difference.
