com.apple.inputmethodkit.userdictionary hijacking cpu usage and freezing my macbook

After updating to Mavericks my mac began first going hot with very high cpu-usage for the process called com.apple.inputmethodkit.userdictionary. The problem ended temprariy if I force quitted the process, but after a while it came back and eventually the macbook freezes and requires a hard boot.

I had been running and updating the same stuff for years and thought that a clean install would end the problem. So I backed up everything and began with a fresh install of Mavericks and did not import anything from the backup. To my disappointment the problem did not go away and for the past days I've been trying to find help from the internet, but in vain. The only posting of similar problem with nobody answering to it I found here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-desktop-support/130559-help-cpu-usage.html

Thank's in advance!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Did you see the suggestions on this post?

It's possible your drive is dying. Considering it's a 2009 MBP, this would not be unexpected for a laptop this age.

Backup immediately! I suggest a clone backup.

Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.

I saw the suggestion on that post and followed the instructions, but it did not help and I think it is a different issue. Also, my hard drive is the newest part of the configuration, I changed to a ssd-disk about two years ago so I hope it is not that. The problem seems to be in that particular process that keeps coming up and taking all cpu power out of the macbook.

1) Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar. Hold down Shift key when logging in. Does the problem go away? If yes, it's one of the login items.

2) Restart in Safe boot mode. Does the problem go away?

Safe boot

* shutdown

* start the Mac and *wait* for the startup chime to sound

* after the sound, press and hold down the shift key

* keep holding and *wait* until the grey  Apple logo appears

* now release the shift key and just wait (it could take a few minutes)

* eventually the login screen appears with the words SAFE BOOT

See this link to see what happens during Safe Mode.

Send Apple feedback so they are aware there is an issue.

Back up all data.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Dictionaries/CoreDataUbiquitySupport

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer and test.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I have the exact same problem as you. I have been trying very hard to eliminate it but no success. It is extremely frustrating. Like you, the only other post I found on the internet about this was the one from tonymacx86.com, which wasn't helpful enough to resolve the problem. Thank you for posting the problem. Please post to this thread if you are able to resolve this issue because my problem is literally the same as yours. I couldn't believe nobody else out there was having this problem.

I have the same problem om my Macbook Air and on my iMac and probably on my iPhone as well. The Process "com.apple.InputMethodKit.UserDictionary" takes upp all the memory on my Macbook Air and iMac, my iPhone often gets extremely hot and I think it's the same problem.

I'm convinced that the problem has to do with the iCloud synchronization (probably the user defined shortcuts). The problem seem to stop if you disable the syncing of "Documents and Data" for iCloud on your devices.

When I go to Setting -> General -> Keyboard on my iPhone the phone often gets really hot and won't respond to my actions for a while. I've tried to remove all the user defined shortcuts but they keep coming back when I have syncing of "Documents and Data" activated for iCloud.

This is really annoying and a clean install of all my devices will probably won't help since the problem is with iCloud. I've also tried to resetting the "Documents and Data" on iCloud.com (iCloud: Resetting iCloud Documents & Data service) but not sure if that have helped yet.
