Q: my 5s won't ring consistently. Sometimes it will and in the next minute the call goes to voice mail instantly.

It's simply not dependable. My wife's phone, same model and bought at same time, can be in the same room as mine and the propblem can't be duplicated on her phone.

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1.1

What have you done to troubleshoot this? Did you check to see if Do Not Disturb is turned on? That would result in a small crescent moon icon in the status bar by the battery icon. Turn it off in Settings or the Control Center.

I'm glad you got it sorted out. With Do Not Disturb, depending on settings, calls from Favorites, or calls that have been made twice within a short period of time will come through. It could have been something like that. You can take a look at this support document if you would like to learn more about Do Not Disturb. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463
