Q: I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and my Mac is painfully slow and web pages often don't load on the first try.  Is it possible to roll back to Snow Leopard?

I upgraded to Mavericks and now my Mac Mini is painfully slow (I get the spinning beach ball all the time, even when selecting menus) and many webpages do not load on the first try (I have to reload).  Is it possible to roll back to Snow Leopard?

etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. Go to his website, read his information and from there download and run the program according to his instructions

That's what the Apple spec page says…

    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP577

…but there usually are larger modules that get released after the initial production. If you search around you'll see that it's possible to run it with more.

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-2-duo-2.0-ear ly-2009-nvidia-specs.html

    http://mactracker.ca

If you are unsure search the 'model name and 8GB RAM' for users who have done the same, it has worked in my experience of buying RAM from Kingston or Crucial.

Thanks.  Here are the results.  I bolded and italicized the two issues that were highlighted - the 2 GB RAM and a User Agent:

      [failed] com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

      [failed] com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

That is an old .Mac background job & should be harmless, however you may as well delete the file which should be inside ~/Library/LaunchAgents. Use the Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder… to open that hidden Folder and delete the com.apple.CSConfigDo…plist

Do you really have no kernel extensions installed or did you edit those out?

Have you updated ClamX AV recently? Launch the app & make sure it has the latest definitions & is up to date.

I'd also work out what Lexmark software you have installed… it needs to be up to date.

    [loaded] com.lexmark.lexnetlaunchd.plist

    [loaded] com.lexmark.bmlaunchd.plist

What is ConnectService? It runs inside your user account (System Peferences > Users & groups, select your account, Login items tab).

I would also consider removing all those internet plugins - are they all needed & up to date? They should be installed in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/. These can effect Safari's perfomance.

As you can see the RAM has used some 'disk swap'…

    243 MB          Page-outs

That is the same as the 'Swap used' figure in Activity Monitor, it means your RAM was full at some point and the internal disk needed to be used to store RAM - more RAM will help with this

Thanks.  I had a feeling RAM would help.  My Lexmark printer is going to be replaced, soon - it's falling apart.  I don't know what ConnectService is - it might belong to my ISP.  ClamX has been updated about 2 weeks ago.  I rarely use Safari - I prefer Chrome.  Thank you so much.  Oh, and I didn't edit out kernel extensions.  I don't know why I don't have any.

A few minor issues that probably have nothing to do with speed are some out-dated Internet Plug-Ins that I recognize immediately:

    Internet Plug-ins:

              Silverlight: Version: 4.0.51204.0 Support

              AdobePDFViewer: Version: 9.5.5 Support

              DirectorShockwave: Version: 11.5.7r609 Support

SilverLight is old and at least the v5.3 update involved a security issue of some sort.

AdobePDFViewer should be at v11 now.

Why You Should Ditch Adobe Shockwave

This leads me to believe you probably have other out-of-date and Mavericks incompatible software on your computer.

Yes, I probably have a lot of older stuff that Mavericks doesn't like.  I'm sorry I ever upgraded!  Oh, well.
