Upgrade mid-2009 MBP to 8GB RAM results in kernel panics
I recently replaced the 2x2G dimms in my mbp with 2x4G. What I took out was factory installed Micron memory, 1066 DDR3. I replaced them with Crucial memory of the same specs: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LTBJFM
Immediately upon installing the new memory I would get occasional kernel panics (i.e. I would get this screen: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636).
Expecting some bad memory, I let memtest86 run overnight. No errors. Re-seeded the memory and kept using it, but still got kernel panics. I put the original 2x2G dimms back in... solid for a few days. Figuring it must be bad RAM despite the memtest86 results I sent the memory back and got a replacement. Unfortunately, I'm still seeing occasional kernel panics with the replacements. I haven't been able to detect any kind of pattern of when it'll happen. There might have been some updates since before things started, but I've kept the software the same since seeing the old dimms work solid for a few days.
Assuming that I didn't get bad memory two times in a row, any ideas what the problem could be? Is my MBP (specs below) just not compatible with the memory I got (link above)?
Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if I can provide more information.
