Does DropBox content use space on my Air Start Up Disc?

I´m trying to discover (with AppleCare support) why my new Air has virtually NO space left on the Start Up Disc...EVER. The OTHER files have always been huge and we´ve trashed everything imaginable. The AppleCare rep suggests that I consider wiping my hard drive clean and starting over. UGH! I´ve done that with my Pro and other computers and will not go there unless absolutely necessary. What a nightmare! Today my OTHER appeared for a few hours to be the ONLY kind of files on my SU Disk and indicated I had only 4 MB of space left! Right now, it´s reading that I have all categories of files represented again, but OTHER is still over 41 GB big. Days ago, I took off ALL my docs, movies, photos and am still in constant red alert. That´s why I wonder about DropBox. Some out there on the net say it DOES take up space and others say NO. HELP!

Dropbox definitely takes up space. That's how it works. Your Dropbox folder sits on your hard drive, and syncs with the Dropbox server. Sometimes putting your Dropbox on a secondary drive is a good solution, but you'd have to carry it around with your Air. You could uninstall Dropbox completely (and delete your local files) and only access them through the web interface, but that's not very convenient.

I recommend you run Omnidisksweeper to see where the largest files and folders are.
