itunes icon won't open itunes

Everytime I click on my itunes icon or open it from the start menu, my computer will either install itunes or remove it. It never opens the itunes main page. I originally installed itunes with the disc provided on my old computer, it crashed so I then downloaded the newer version from this site it worked on the initial install but never has since. Anyone? Oh yeah is there any way to download the songs from my ipod to my new computer. I have all of my old songs on my ipod but they're not in my library. Would greatly appreciate help. Thanks.

You need to get iTunes str8 before copying from the ipod with third party programs.

In windows goto control panel>add and remove and uninstall iTUnes AND quicktime. Then go here and roll down to the section "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

Now scan the PC for malware (Malware is a general term for adware and spyware) with your malware scanner or Ewido http://www.ewido.com

Then disable your antivirus/security programs and goto apple.com to download/install iTUnes

Connect the ipod, hit no on the prompt. Now goto edit>prefences>ipod and set the ipod to "Manual update" then goto advanced tab>general sub tab and make sure "Copy files added to library to itunes music folder" is UNCHECKED then hit OK.

Now your ready for third party programs like podutil to copy the songs over In podutil hit "Copy Settings" and check "Add tracks to iTUnes" and "Rebuild playlists"
