What you can use is an iCloud feature called Back to My Mac. Take a look at the article below that explains more about Back to My Mac.

Jun 4, 2014 1:58 PM in response to Torrecillaby Torrecilla,Thanks, just found that out from another source. It's turned on on the iMac, and I'll check my Macbook when I get home. Was also told that if that doesn't work for any reason, I can use GoToMyPC.

Back to My Mac has been an iCloud feature ever since iCloud came out with OS 10.7 (Lion). This article explains more about setting up the service and how to use it.
