Ipad Mini Had Glass Repaired Now Ipad Is Crashing and not charging

HI Everyone...

I had my ipad mini's glass repaired from a local peron here in Kingsport TN. Should have been a simple fix I thought... Got ipad back. Outside was really beat up. The screen did not seem as responsive as it was to touch but I used it like 2-3 hours. When I went to bed it was still about 80% charged. When I got up it appeared dead. I restarted it and it would come on for a few seconds and then go off. and It sais 0 % charged.... And I could not get it to charge. I took it back to the same guy and he kept it another day stating that it was weird that I had a memory fault right as he fixed the glass... I have never had a problem with the memory before or it closing down or not charging. UNTIL he worked on it. I got it back today and it did the same powering down thing as before and after about 3-4 times of that it stayed on. I worked on it for several hours. It read 90% power the WHOLE time... I pluged itto my wall plug and checked it after an hour. It still read 90%. I plugged it ito my laptop, left it an hour... it still says 90%. Can anyone think of what the repair guy might have done to it or accidently messed up that would make it do this? ANy help would be appreciated. I hate to chuck what was a great mini ipad!!

Thanks!

My iPad was 2 years old. I didn't think it was under warranty anymore. Nor did I think a warranty would

would cover a broken screen. So yes, I took it there. In every town there seems to

be "iPad and iPhones repaired here" places popping up. I did not even

think about sending it to Apple for this repair. Wish I had.

My question is, is there anything the guy could have messed

up that would make my iPad respond by shutting down and not

charging? The guy is telling me that the problems I'm having are just

a coincidence in timing and that I had a "memory fault"... What i want to

know is there anything inside he could have touched, bent, hit that would

cause what i listed. Again, Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks everyone. I broke the iPad screen last November and still used it everyday for hours at a time. With no issues whatsoever... No crashing, and it charged fine. I just finally had some extra money and thought I would take it for repair. And like I said upon picking it up it has one problem after another. And yes, the outside case looks newly beat up. It didn't have any dents or dings on it before repair but now it does. I have to wonder if he accidentally damaged something inside while replacing the screen. Would a damaged battery cable or logic board cause it to shut down and not charge? Thanks!

I have to wonder if he swapped it with another iPad. You may no longer have your original iPad. Apple does not sell parts. What he used, if he used anything, were parts from a salvaged, probably already damaged, iPad. Find your original sales receipt and check the serial numbers. Demand your money back at a minimum. Unfortunately, you provided him with a broken device. Once you get your money back all you are entitled to is another broken iPad, same as your brought in.

Your only choice at this point is to find another repair facility or purchase another device. What you have is going to give you constant problems. Regardless, unpleasant as it may sound, you got scammed.

You are kidding me!!! Apple doesnt sell like replacement kits to the public for DIY idiots like myself?! I never thought of that Raymond! I am an old lady and not technically minded. I got this as a gift several years ago from my kids and my Grandaughter accidentally left in on the floor by my recliner handle and it got cracked by the handle. Like I shared it worked perfect since November even with the cracked screen. I used it every day. I totally see my folly in not taking it to Apple for repair. I simply didn't think about it because it was out of warranty.

The guy is arguing with me telling me that it was a timing coincidence that he was replacing my screen and my iPad suddenly had a memory fault. And he says that is what caused the problem. He called and said he could back it up and put stuff back on there. To be honest we had no idea what he meant. All we told him was that we needed it fixed so do whatever he had to do to repair it. This was after we brought it home the day he repaired it and it started crashing and not charging. Frankly, I am scared to take it back to him now. Not that he has offered btw! He will not respond to my calls or emails. Bear in mind he has a huge fancy website for apple repairs here in Kingsport, tn. I chose him off of his website... :/ Does anyone know what a memory fault is? It appears he did not remove anything... I deleted a bunch of apps when I got it back and it worked a for a min. Actually yesterday it worked most of the day, ALWAYS showing it was 90% charged and never moving. This morning it started it shut off thing again and now it won't come on.

Anyhow I really appreciate each of you responding. It makes sense. Where do people like this but there parts at??? I guess I should not give it back to him in hopes of repair in case he offers... Do you all agree?? Do you think my symptoms can even be repaired or should I look to buy a new one?

Thanks again!!

You are correct that accidental damage is not covered under the warranty. A broken screen is almost always caused by accidental damage. But Apple has an out of warranty program where you could have gotten your iPad replaced and the fee would have been much less than purchasing the iPad again new. Unfortunately you no longer qualify for that program because you had an unauthorized third party replace the screen.

Parts for iPads can be taken from other damaged or non working units, stolen devices or devices sold by there original owners.

When Apple accepts a damaged iPad they evaluate it and if possible they refurbish it. That process includes repairing the damage, replacing the case and battery. The resulting iPad ends up being like new.

Not sure if you are serious or are yanking my chain. It is true that Apple does not sell parts. I don't think you are an idiot.

Where do people like this but there parts at???

They don't buy parts from Apple. They get broken devices and scavenge them for parts. Or they buy stolen devices off EBay, Craigslist or other sites. They use the scavenged parts from these devices to repair (destroy) other devices.

Apple would have replaced the device for a couple hundred dollars (exact price escapes me) with a refurbished unit. Apple replaces the case, glass and battery from other devices that have been returned to Apple. The device comes with a 90 day warranty.

Now that you have had the device messed with by a third party Apple will no longer accept the device for an out of warranty swap.

You could continue to argue with the repair person but that is like mud wrestling with a pig. You both get dirty but the pig likes it. Your only viable option is to get a new device from Apple or purchase a used device from someone else. Purchasing from someone else is risky because of activation lock and archeology of the device being unknown. Chalk it up to a life lesson and get a new device from Apple. Life will be more pleasant.
